URGENT: Camping Trip Canceled due to inclement weather / flooding potential (Confirm Receipt)

"Knock it off"  was called due to high risk of flooding (ANY member can call and "Knock it off" when they feel an situation has or is about to become unsafe, thus requiring review of the activity and reassessment of the safety)

Jul 5, 2013; 12:49 PM ET http://www.accuweather.com

After review of the situation myself and with the added uncertainty of having a van available for evacuation 100% of the time, I must concur with Captain Boan's call.

1) Very little training will be accomplished due to the high probability of Thunderstorms
2) The park, being subject to flooding, has a likelihood of becoming unsafe and evacuation of cadet Saturday evening or night will become necessary.

The Risks therefore outweigh the benefits.

Safety is priority!

BOTTOM LINE: The camping Trip has been canceled.

2013 LAWing Encampment Staff / Senior Members

URGENT ACTION REQUIRED

Attention All Members

On behalf of the Louisiana Wing Director of Cadet Programs and Encampment Commander, Lt Col Shelly Thibodaux and the encampment command staff, I am sending this request for the widest distribution. Please forward.

We are in need of Senior Members to staff the 2013 Louisiana Summer Encampment which is to be held at Barksdale Air Force Base beginning July 11 and ending July 21, 2013.

If you already submitted this information on the forms the cadets used, it is important that you submit this form as the previous data submitted by Seniors had problems.

This is not the complete application. It is only a quick form that collects enough data to let us know you are interested and how too contact you. We will call to discuss our needs with each of you directly, when we receive your response.

It is our hope to have all positions staffed by April 15. That gives us only 1 week. Please put your name in ASAP.

Thank you for your support of the Louisiana Encampment.

PAO NEWS: What logo should I use?

Summary of December 2012 revisions to CAPR 900-2 CIVIL AIR PATROL NAME, SEAL, LOGO, COMMAND EMBLEM AND FLAG ETIQUETTE

We will begin to see and use the new triangle CAP Logo on "marketing and advertising, promotional and recruiting materials, news releases and publications targeting internal and external audiences."

The regulation clearly outlines when and where each of the CAP identifying symbols may be used. Changes should be reviewed and changes made as indicated. This includes all locations where the emblem, seal or logo is currently used.  A date for completing the changes was not indicate, but prudence would require that those changes that can be made easily (i.e. use on web pages where a simple swap of images is fairly easy) should be done as soon as possible while printed material should be used up and corrections made in the next printing (i.e. business cards.)
Additionally, the revised regulation "rescinds the use of the Air Force “Hap Arnold” symbol cradled with CAP organizational emblems."

CAP Regulation 900-2 also details "USE AND DISPLAY OF THE UNITED STATES FLAG AND CIVIL AIR PATROL FLAGS," something that all members, particularly color guards and honor guard members should be knowledgeable of

For more information and to review the regulation, here is the Link to CAPR 900-2

Ground Team Basics: Task O-001 / O-002

TASK O-001: PREPARE INDIVIDUAL GROUND TEAM EQUIPMENT AND
TASK O-002: PERFORM INDIVIDUAL RETROFIT.

24/72 Hour Load Bearing equipment (LBE) pack video: 24/72 Hour LBE (Senior Member) This is just an example of how one might pull together equipment for Ground Team. There are a few key things to note:
  1. Weight! YOU need to be able to carry YOUR gear comfortably and for a long time. Pack light and distribute weight
  2. Have gear accessible. You don't want to have to stop and dig in a backpack for equipment you need on foot.
  3. Know your system of packing. The GT Task guide recommends grouping items and putting in Zip lock bags but it is not required. You do need to know where your gear is.
  4. Knives must be approved. A good Gerber multi-tool is recommended for cadet GTMs.
  5. Deluxe is not necessary. This guy has gone all out with his setup. This is not required. Check local Military Surplus or sporting goods stores for options. Just try to stick with similar neutral colors but spending a lot of money for "military spec" in not needed.
  6. In the video, he does not cover some of the stuff you are supposed to carry on your person so check the GT list and task guide  HERE
You might also find this interesting. Video: 72 hour mini survival  I personally like to carry such a survival kit which can be part of the GT equipment or taken alone. It has some of the required items plus a few extra. Again, cadets clear knives with your GTL.
