The Road to Cadet Solo Pilot

CAP Cadet Solo Pilot Wings
Do you want to be a pilot?

If the answer is "YES" then contact Major Smith, our Aerospace Education Officer, to discuss how you can do that and come up with a plan.

We have many cadets in LA Wing who have already completed their solo flight, either locally or at a national flight academy. C/Lt Frederick is one of those cadets and we just had two cadets (age 15 ad 16) from Capital City Solo last month (read it here.) Imagine that! They can't "solo" in a car yet but... So, yes it is entirely possible and scholarships may be available.

IF you can't, or are not ready to, start Ground School yet you might consider getting a feel for some of the terminology and material you will learn by completing some free courses online through the FAA Safety website. These courses are not course you need for becoming a pilot, they are courses pilots typically take to stay current. They will serve as your required monthly safety briefing, so be sure to register on the sight and get credit for what you complete.

If you are not a Civil Air Patrol cadet and you would like to learn what it takes to be part of the best programs for youth, ages 12 - 18, visit www.gocivilairpatrol.com and/or contact your local squadron. Ascension Composite Squadron is located in Gonzales, LA and has cadets from South Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, Maurepas, Lutcher, Paulina, LePlace and all areas of Ascension Parish. We meet every Monday (except major holidays) at Louisiana Regional Airport at 6:30pm. Visitors are welcome, guest attire is casual.

Civil Air Patrol is NOT just for cadets either. We are looking for adults of all ages and professions. Aviation or military background is not required.
