022 Represented at LA Wing Conference

This past weekend, LA Wing held the 2010 annual conference in Pineville, LA. Although it may late in the year to celebrate accomplishments for 2010, scheduling conflicts forced a delay of the event usually held in Spring.

This conference, held at Country Inn and Suites proved to be very successful with record numbers in attendance. Cadets in particular had an awesome showing with almost 50 in attendance, 33% of the cadet membership in the Wing. A very impressive jump from the 8-10 attending 2009 conference. This is just another sign that the cadet program in LA Wing is picking up speed. Ascension composite won the attendance award including $100 for the highest percentage of membership in attendance.

Among the highlights of the weekend, C/CMSgt received his promotion to 2nd Lt just before the change of command to transfer command of the Louisiana Wing Cadet program from Lt Col Fife to 2Lt Bolton. Lt Col Fife is not leaving us but she will be going off to college out of state. Special guests included Col Mary Fiek, Steve Trupp, Cadet Programs, CAP NHq, Col Buethe, SWR Commander and Col Gloyd, Vice Commander of CAP-USAF.

Much fun was had at the cadet social, luau on Friday night. Saturday highlights included presentation by Mary Fiek, updates from NHq on cadet programs and a DDR Skit directed by C/SrMSgt Delbasty and a combination of cadets from Ascension, Lake Charles, Barksdale and Capital City. All in all, the weekend was a success.

A special THANK YOU goes out the Major David Taylor who, even though his cadets were traveling with parents, drove the Hammond van to transport and Room with Ascension in order for us to have enough room for all the cadets traveling with us.
